Dakota smooth sailing the audio seas

Dakota Poncilius graduated from Harbourside IT a few years ago – He then became our Studio Manager and Student Councillor, and took to the position like a duck to water.

Though, sorry to see him go, when he was offered a job at Gear Force, we were appreciative of the time he spent with us and proud that this young fellow graduated from HiT.

Dakota has just spent ten days at David Lam Park, as the ‘Front of House’ live sound engineer for all the Vancouver Jazz Festival events on that stage.

More than any other person, the FOH engineer controls what the audience hears during a live performance. To do that, the engineer must blend together instruments and vocals to achieve a perfectly balanced sound. In essence, the engineer behind the audio console is like a member of the band—and just as important to the audience’s perception. Without the proper mix from the soundboard, the work of the musicians on stage is wasted.
