Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the AEMP Program?

The Audio Engineering and Music Production Program is scheduled over 9 months. Students attend the school for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, with occasional workshops and classes on the weekends.

How big are the classes?

Class sizes are small with a maximum of 12 students at any one time. This gives students the opportunity to work on their own Digital Audio Workstations and affords them more personal instruction time and ‘hands on’ training.

How much studio time do I get?

At HIT you're always in the studio. All classes are conducted in the studio environment. In addition every student has their own workstation, loaded with the latest software and hardware, which functions as their own mini production studio.

Is Pro Tools 101 and 110 Certification included in the AEMP Program? Can I take it Separately?

Yes, both Pro Tools 101 and 110 are included, at no extra cost, in the Audio Engineering and Music Production program. This gives AEMP students a savings of $2,000.

The Pro Tools Certification Programs can also be taken separately, without enrolling in the full time AEMP program. Visit our Pro Tools Page for more info.

Can I get financial assistance?

Harbourside IT is accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (of BC) - PCTIA.

Canadian Citizens and Landed Immigrants may be eligible for Federal and Provincial student loan funding.

Some students may be able to obtain loans from financial institutions in Canada, or other countries.

Students may be eligible for training through Employment Insurance, Band Training Programs, or the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.

Is the school accredited with the PCTIA?

Yes!

What should I do to get ready for the AEMP program?

Listen to lots of records! There are several things you can do to get ready for our AEMP Program. The first step is to get any kind of audio recording software installed on your home computer and practice your computer skills. If you are still in High School it's great to take any classes that deal with computers, arts, or music creation. Check out our Resources Page for links to online magazines, forums, videos, and tutorials.

When do classes start?

Our Full Time Program has three start dates per year; October, January, and April.

Pro Tools 101 and 110 classes run monthly. Check out our Pro Tools Course Page for the next start date.

Our Part Time program runs three times a year; August, July, and March.

Will I get a job after I graduate?

This depends largely on your own drive and work ethic. However, over 80% of HIT grads get a job in their desired field. Our high job placement rate is due to a strong industry respect for our institute and instructors. Check out our Alumni page to see where our grads are working.
