HIT Students Working Towards Song Release Date:
In the spring of 2011 HIT will be releasing Best of The West, Vol. 1.
This compilation album features the production and engineering skills of our top graduates, while showcasing some of the most exciting new and emerging artists in the local music scene today. The Studios and Classroom have been a hive of activity, with the students overseeing production and recording of their respective projects as they gain invaluable hands-on experience – by managing all aspects of their projects – creating and implementing plans for marketing, publicity, promotion, sales, and web development.
Graduate Mike Slater is working with his own band, producing the Tool & Perfect Circle influenced “Slow Wave Saga”. Chris Battye has been busy demo’ing and arranging tracks with modern rock artist “The Mighty One”. Darcy Northmore has just cut vocals for his “Grateful Dread” project – a Caribbean & Reggae tribute to the one and only Grateful Dead. Angus Lee is cooling things down with trippy, chilled-out electronica compositions. Brent Gibson will be bringing us the sweet-soul sounds of local artist Gina Williams.
Stay tuned next month for more on this exciting project.
HIT Instructors, Staff and Students in the News:
We are all saddened by the passing of legendary engineer and good friend, Paul Baker. HIT graduate Dave Meszaros is taking up the reins and continuing Paul’s legacy at Bakerstreet Studios. We wish him all the best in this exciting venture.
HIT instructors scored at the Western Canadian Music Awards – Mike Rogerson, with the help of HIT graduate David Badiuk, recorded and mixed Alpha Yaya Diallo’s album “Imme” – which won Best World Recording of the Year.
Sam Ryan co-mixed Laurell’s “Can’t Stop Falling” album which won the Pop Recording of the Year award. Sam’s artist “Miss Mercury” landed 3 more primetime TV slots for her latest single in – “Gossip Girls” and “Running Wild”. He also produced Krome’s TMZ, which is currently at #20 on the Canadian active Mediabase Rock charts.
Our 3rd term student, Graeme Collins, recorded and mixed a song that is in rotation on Much Vibe and the Beat.
Registrar, Tony Rudner, was in the studio on Sunday, recording with guitarist Andreas Schuld, bassist and HIT instructor Kerry Galloway and percussionist Raphael Geronimo – Graduate Dave Meszaros was in attendance as the recording engineer. This is the start of the exciting new “Schuld Rudner” quartet.
