Harbourside IT | School of Audio Engineering and Music Production

Harbourside Institute of Technology, one of the most technically advanced audio engineering schools in Canada, offers a full spectrum of programs and courses,  from Audio Engineering and Music Production, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Push Labs, Music Business, Electronic Music Production, Live Sound, Songwriting, Sound Design, Audio Post Production and Studio Maintenance, to Advanced Recording Artist development. Located in the beautiful Harbourside district of North Vancouver, BC, the school has access to waterfront parks and enjoys a view of downtown Vancouver across the Burrard Inlet.

HarboursideIT is an Avid Learning Partner and one of the few certified Pro Tools training schools in Canada, having one of the country’s only Pro Tools experts and a Venue certified instructor on staff. HiT is the only Canadian audio school  that is also a certified Ableton training centre, and, as well as having one of Canada’s  top certified Ableton instructors on faculty, boasts the creation of the first Ableton Push lab in the country. It is a highly specialized, boutique school that teaches within the environment of a world-class recording studio. Every student has a fully loaded workstation at their desk at all times – consisting of an iMac computer loaded with the latest versions of Pro Tools software and plugins,  Ableton Live and McDSP professional plugins. The atmosphere in the classrooms and recording studio is all about learning, through the interaction between students, instructors and the latest industry equipment, with the primary objective being to ensure that, by graduation, students have achieved the level of proficiency and confidence required to enter the world of professional recording, music production and audio post production.

All the HIT instructors are successful professionals who are currently active in all aspects of the audio industry – including: record production, electronic music production, Ableton, pro tools, game audio, sound design, post audio, movie scoring, songwriting, studio session performance, recording engineering, dj-ing, audio installations, recording studio construction, gear development and maintenance, artist development, record label management, marketing, live sound and live performance. The school’s philosophy is based on the fact that it’s instructors are constantly growing and studying new industry trends, by being out in the field and staying ahead of the curve in regards to the latest developments in audio equipment – As a consequence, Harbourside Institute of Technology has  an Ableton certified instructor, two officially certified Pro Tools instructors, one of the only two Avid designated Pro Tools experts in Canada and an Avid certified Venue ‘Live Sound Production’ instructor, on staff.

To give our graduates the best competitive edge as they build their careers, Harbourside IT has introduced a Graduate Access Program.  The GAP program allows alumni of Harbourside IT unfettered access to our studios and facilities for private or commercial recording projects. In addition, third term students attending Harbourside are invited to assist or engineer on these projects, thus giving them invaluable experience in a real-world commercial scenario. Much of the time, the natural flow creates situations where students and graduates work on outside professional productions with HiT instructors.

Furthermore graduates are entitled to receive continued and on-going support in the form of:

Professional Development
Networking Opportunities
Business Plan Development
Funding Research & Grant Writing
One on one Mentorship
